Episode 9 – John McEnroe Preview the Davis Cup Final and Bjorn Borg Reveals a Bizarre Obsession

With the BlackRock Masters Tennis at London’s Royal Albert Hall just days away, the ninth edition of the BlackRock Tennis Champions Podcast looks ahead to the season-ending finale.

Just prior to the event in London, the Davis Cup final between the United States and Russia will take place in Portland, Oregon.

In an exclusive interview, John McEnroe looks ahead to a final that could see his nation win its first Davis Cup for 12 years. Who does McEnroe think will win? Why? And how will he feel watching his brother Patrick – the current USA captain – sit on the sidelines?

And finally, over recent years, the players on the BlackRock Tour of Champions have adopted lowly British football teams to support - Goran Ivanisevic and John McEnroe in particular left people scratching their heads in 2005 by declaring their undying support for West Bromwich Albion.

Now it is Bjorn Borg’s turn to reveal his personal favourite, and his choice is similarly bizarre.

People have listened in their thousands to the podcasts, taking fans behind the scenes and into the locker rooms with some of the great tennis champions of the past. What do Richard Krajicek and Sergi Bruguera talk about in the showers, how many superstitions does Goran Ivanisevic really have, and what happened when the champions watched their first rugby game together? The BlackRock Tennis Champions Podcast revealed answers to all of those questions.

In Episode 8, Roger Federer joined Borg and McEnroe for a special tennis love-in. For the full catalogue of podcasts, click here.

The BlackRock Tour of Champions will arrive in London at the Royal Albert Hall next Tuesday.

The 12-man field in London will be made up of the Top Seven players in the South African Airways Champions Tour Rankings, and then five wild cards.
