Marcelo Rios put the disappointment of failing to reach the final of the BlackRock Masters final behind him by receiving the No.1 trophy for finishing top of the South African Airways Champions Tour Rankings.
The Chilean was utterly dominant for most of the 2006 Merrill Lynch Tour of Champions season, winning his first six tournaments, and racking up 25 consecutive match victories.
“It’s nice to finish No.1 and good to receive the prize trophy here in London,” said Rios.
“It was a good year – I made some ‘noise’ – and it was fun. I played people I never thought I would have chance to play and meet people I had never met. I want to try to keep it up and to stay motivated about tennis.”
