Goran Ivanisevic has been forced to pull out of his scheduled showdown with Tim Henman at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the second year in a row because of injury.
The Croatian hurt a hamstring while running for a ball in practice as he prepared for a special one-off match with Henman. His place on Tuesday evening will be taken by the young Swede Joachim Johansson ? a semi-finalist at the US Open two months ago.
The match will benefit Henman's charity Kids at Heart and run alongside the main event at The Masters Tennis presented by Cunard, which sees John McEnroe, Boris Becker and Pat Cash battling nine other champions for a winner-take-all prize of $100,000.
The injury is a bitter blow to Ivanisevic, who hoped to make up for lost time after a long-term shoulder problem prevented him from playing at the Royal Albert Hall last year.
"This will be a fun match and I'm happy that I will be able to play at the Albert Hall," Ivanisevic had said last month.
"Last year I couldn't play - I had to pull out because of my shoulder, so this year it's going to be fun. I've heard that it's a great thing to play at the Albert Hall, it's a great atmosphere. It will be Christmas time so I might be generous and let him beat me so everyone goes home happy."
Unfortunately, the injury is too serious for him to be able to play, although Johansson will give fans at The Masters Tennis presented by Cunard a glimpse of what the future has in store.
The 22-year-old Swede leapt 101 places in the rankings from No.113 at the end of 2003, to his current No.12.
He boasts a huge serve, an equally big forehand and a massive reputation after knocking out defending US Open champion Andy Roddick from the American's home Grand Slam tournament. Johansson and Henman have never played each other before.
Ivanisevic will now hope to recover in time for his first full season on the Delta Tour of Champions next year.
The Croatian plans to play regularly in 2005, and will try to qualify for the main event of The Masters Tennis presented by Cunard next year.
